This is a list of some of the shade tree that we usually have on hand but please call to confirm.

MAPLE

Acer x freemanii 'Jeffersred'

Autumn Blaze Maple

Height: 50'-60' Spread: 40' Zone 4-7

A hybrid of red and silver maple. A very popular tree offering the excellent fall color of a red maple combined with a growth rate closer to that of a silver maple.

 

Acer x freemanii 'Celzam'

Celebraton Maple

Height 45' Spread: 20-25' Zone 4-7

Rapid growth, drought tolerance, great fall color, and the ability to grow in most soils. Does well in sun or shade, and is seedless.

 

Acer x fremanii 'Marmo'

Marmo Maple

Height: 70' Spread: 35' Zone 4-7

Vigorous grower with a strong central leader, excellent branching and a uniform, upright habit. The fall color is a mottled blend of red and green to burgundy, yellow and gold, depending on temperature. Adaptable to heavy clay soils

 

Acer x fremanii 'Sienna'

Sienna Glen Maple

Height: 60' Spread: 40' Zone 3-7

Excellent branching habit. Requires less pruning and forms a well-branched tree. Vigorous grower and has an excellent winter hardiness. Less susceptible to winter frost cracking, sun scald and dieback. Fall color is red to burgundy red. Smaller leaves and finer branching gives it a more delicate appearance.

 

Acer platanoides

Norway Maple

Height: 50'-60' Spread: 50' Zone 4-7

A popular street tree. Also useful in large yards and parks. Provides thick shade. Tolerant of urban conditions. Yellow fall color. Wrap trunks of young trees in winter.

 

Acer platanoides 'Columnare'

Columnar Norway Maple

Height: 50' Spread: 15-20' Zone 4-7

A unique accent plant for formal or narrow locations.

 

Acer platanoides 'Pond'

Emerald Lustre Maple

Height: 50'-60' Spread: 50'-60' Zone 4-7

A COPF introduction discovered as seedling in Canada in 1967. Excellent branching habit. Makes a fine street or shade tree.

 

Acer platanoides 'Emerald Queen'

Emerald Queen Maple

Height: 50'-60' Spread: 40'-45' Zone 4-7

A fast growing selection of Norway Maple. Dark green foliage and yellow fall color.

Acer platanoides 'Royal Red'

Royal Red Maple

Deep maroon foliage all summer long. Slow growing.

Proven performers, sugar maples are prized for their wonderful fall colors. Native to Minnesota.

A Bailey Nurseries introduction. Thick leathery leaves. Fall colors in shades of yellow, orange, and red.

Thick waxy leaves hold up well to dry summer winds. Deep orange fall color.

Lighter bark color than species.

 

Betula populifolia 'Whitespire'

Whitespire Birch

Height: 45'-50' Spread: 30-35' Zone 4-8

A white barked birch generally known to resistant to bronze birch borer.

 

Betula x 'Crimson Frost'

Crimson Frost Birch

Height: 30'-35' Spread: 20' Zone 4-7

Leaves are reddish-purple all summer long.

 

HACKBERRY

Celtis occidentalis

Common Hackberry

Height: 50'-75' Spread: 35'-40' Zone 2-7

Hackberry are very tolerant of extreme conditions. They have a rough and corky bark.

Once established, they have a moderate to fast growth rate.

 

ASH

Fraxinus americana 'Autumn Blaze'

Introduced by Morden Research Station. Hardier than many of the white ash selections.

A seedless selection with good fall color. 1995 Iowa Tree of the Year.

White Oak

A native oak prefers acidic well-drained soils. The deep green foliage has white undersides.

 

Quercus bicolor

Swamp White Oak

Height: 50'-60' Spread: 40'-50' Zone 4

Flaking gray-brown bark sets this oak apart from others. Tolerates most soil conditions, but prefers an acidic site.

 

Quercus ellipsoidalis

A stately native tree with a broad growth habit. Xeriscape plant.
