Green Goods - Ornamental Grasses

This is a list of some of the ornamental grasses that we usually have on hand but please call to confirm.

 

Calamagrostis arundinacea 'Karl Foerster'

One of the first grasses to flower in the summer. The inflorescence reaches 12" long and is borne on stalks that are 4-5' tall. Foliage is 1/2" wide and up to 36" long. Good winter hardiness. Zones 5-9.

Calamagrostis arundinacea 'Overdam'

(Variegated Feather Reed Grass) Features variegated foliage with sand colored flower heads. Reaches 5' tall.

Festuca ovina glauca 'Elijah Blue'

A durable and long lasting ornamental grass. Forms neat blue-green mounds 6-10" tall

Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal'

Grows 3-4' tall with rigid, metallic-blue leaves that form an upright clump. Delicate pink flowers. The foliage turns to yellow in the fall.

 

Miscanthus 'Silberfeder'

(Silver Feather) Medium green, long leaves reach up to 7' tall with silvery plumes in late August.

Phlaris arundinacea 'Feesey's Form'

An attractive, vigorous variety that features tri-colored foliage. The finely textured blades reach 2-3' tall, and have fine, white, vertical stripes mixed with pink on a green background. Cream colored flowers in the fall. Zones 4-9.

Miscanthus purparescens 'Autumn Red'

Broad, deep green leaves which turn orange-red in the fall. Winter hardy to Zone 4. Plants reach 4' tall with silvery-white plumes.

Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah'

The reddest of all the Panicums. The foliage grows to 4' tall and turns to an attractive wine color in the fall.

Panicum virgatum 'Prairie Sky'

Very distinctive blue-green foliage. Grows 6-8' tall. Zone 4.

Schizachryium scorarium 'The Blues'

An excellent selection from the native prairie grasses. The blue-green foliage reaches 2-3' tall during the summer and turns cinnamon red in the fall. Fluffy, silver seed heads are formed in the fall. Zones 4-9.
